New installation or replacement roof vent?

If an existing roof ventilation dome is damaged, obsolete, faulty or no longer suitable for the building, we can survey the installation and assess the available options.

KEY FEATURES
What We Do

Automatic smoke venting at roof level

A roof ventilation dome forms part of a complete smoke ventilation system designed to provide a high-level smoke discharge point.

The vent is operated by an actuator connected to the AOV control system. When the system receives the appropriate activation signal, the actuator opens the roof vent to allow smoke to discharge through the roof.

What BLEC roof ventilation domes does

BLEC roof ventilation domes are natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (NSHEVs) built into the roof itself — opening automatically to clear smoke from stairwells, corridors and roof voids, and doubling as daylighting rooflights on a day-to-day basis. Available for virtually every smoke ventilation application, from a single stairwell to a fully networked AOV installation.

At BLEC, we can survey, specify, supply, install, commission and maintain AOV and smoke ventilation systems across the UK.

Benefits

Roof ventilation for AOV systems

Roof ventilation domes provide a practical way to introduce natural smoke ventilation at roof level, while offering a clean, reliable solution for suitable AOV applications.

Natural smoke ventilation

High-level roof openings allow smoke and heat to discharge naturally when the vent opens during a fire.

Sunlit Rooftop Skylight Dome

Daylight & ventilation

Glazed or translucent dome designs can bring natural daylight into the building while supporting ventilation where the system is designed for it.

Daylight ventilation

Automatic operation

Connected to an AOV control system, the dome can open automatically when the required fire signal is received.

Features

Roof ventilation built for performance

Designed for natural smoke ventilation and automatic operation, our roof ventilation domes are specified to suit the building, roof construction and AOV system requirements.

Natural, non-powered smoke clearance

Vents smoke and heat by buoyancy once open, so clearance doesn't depend on mains fan power.

Dual daylighting & ventilation duty

The same dome provides day-to-day comfort ventilation and rooflight daylighting, separate from its full-open smoke duty.

Actuator-driven opening

Chain or spindle actuator wired directly to a BLEC smoke vent control panel's terminal schedule.

GRP or polycarbonate glazing

Material selected for impact resistance, light transmission and fire performance.

Manual override

Local manual opening for day-to-day ventilation or maintenance access, independent of the automatic system.

Tested as part of the vent system

Dome and actuator are tested together to BS EN 12101-2, installed under BS 7346-8.

Get the right smoke ventilation solution for your building

If you need a new roof-mounted AOV, a replacement dome, a complete smoke ventilation system or advice on an existing installation, we can survey the building and specify the appropriate solution.

A roof ventilation dome can be used as the vent within an Automatic Opening Vent system. The complete AOV installation also includes the appropriate actuator, controls, power supply and other equipment required by the system design.

No, not usually. The dome forms part of the wider smoke ventilation system and should be inspected and tested alongside the actuator, controls and other system components as part of routine maintenance to BS 7346-8.

They can be used in suitable stairwell smoke ventilation applications where the building’s fire strategy and system design require a roof-mounted AOV.

Yes. Existing roof-mounted AOV equipment can be surveyed to determine whether it requires maintenance, repair or replacement.

Roof-mounted AOVs can form part of smoke ventilation systems serving communal areas and stairwells in apartment and residential buildings. The appropriate system must be determined from the building’s specific requirements.

Yes. Domes are manufactured to BS EN 1873 and tested as part of the vent system to BS EN 12101-2, installed under BS 7346-8.
